We have now completed the process of assessing and appointing the new Principal for Island School. The Council subcommittee together with ESF has been through a long process of collecting and preparing information on the qualities we expect in the new Principal, advertising the position, choosing a long list and then a short list, and together with others in the Island School community completing the final assessment last week. I am pleased to announce that Christopher Binge will be the new Principal of Island School from August 2009. I look forward to working with him and building on the legacy at Island School left by Michelle Hughes. Island School has strong traditions of a holistic education, whilst striving for high academic standards, and I am sure Chris will continue with this philosophy. Chris comes with a wealth of experience of International Education in Singapore and Geneva. Chris is the Secondary School Principal of La Châtaigneraie Campus, working for the Foundation of the International School of Geneva, Switzerland. This comprises eight institutions, three of which are secondary schools. He has been Principal for 10 years and has previously worked in Singapore at United World College as a senior curriculum manager. He has also served as chair of the IB Diploma Programme Committee of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. Chris has raised achievement in language learning through increasing the numbers of students achieving the IB Bilingual Diploma and also led his school through the Council for International Schools’ accreditation process. Chris has a Mathematics teaching background and he is active in school life outside of the classroom. His involvement includes a wide variety of musical productions (organising as well as performing), as a soccer coach and taking students on field trips around Europe. I know you will share with me in welcoming Chris to the school. Malcolm Gibson Chair of Island School Council
